A beautiful palm with wide and smooth trunk. The palm produces a much sought-after
sweet syrup whose extraction almost brought this species to extinction. The extraction
of the syrup requires cutting down the palm. It is a slow grower and can't tolerate shade,
but very drought resistant. The fruits are sweet and resemble a small coconut.
