Hazelnuts
|
Hazelnut trees are native from Turkey along the Black Sea. Hazelnut trees flower
in the middle of winter
and the long catkins hanging from bare branches adorn the landscape when all other trees have gone dormant.
Hazelnuts keep well if left in the shell and can be used throughout the winter. Eat the nuts raw, roasted or use
them in baked dishes or pastries. The oil extracted from the nut can be a substitute for olive oil in salad
dressings. |
