Garlic
|
Garlic is a mainstay in the culinary world. It adds and enhances flavor to many
dishes when paired with onions, peppers or tomatoes. Garlic is considered the "natural antibiotic"
and has been touted over the years to ward off colds and other infectious diseases. Keep flowers
clipped off so all the plant energy goes into bulb development. Dig up bulbs when plant
tops die off in midsummer.

Elephant Garlic |
| | Allium ampeloprasum |
|
More related to the leeks, elephant garlic is named like that for a season since
it produces large bulbs with excellent mild flavor. It has a tall, solid, flowering stalk and broad, flat leaves
much like those of the leek, but forms a bulb consisting of very large, garlic-like cloves.
